What is a Focus District?
Gouverneur Central School District receives federal Title 1 funds to help ensure that all students meet challenging academic standards. With the funding come performance expectations for assessment scores and graduation rate. Traditionally our schools have been in good standing. However, due to the performance of our economically disadvantaged students on the Grade 3-8 English and Math Assessments, we were identified as a Focus District.
Our mission will be to use federal funding to improve academic outcomes for all students through increased parent engagement and staff professional development. We volunteered to participate in a district review by the state and created a comprehensive improvement plan. Our goal is to have all of our graduates ready for college and career as we "Deliver the Promise of a Brighter Future."
