Theatre Arts is a course with two aims. First, the activities help students develop confidence in getting up
in front of others to speak. Second, this course provides students with skills that prepare them for further
study of theatre or performance. Since it is a performance-based class, there is very little written homework.
The classroom is the auditorium and its stage. Skills taught and practiced in this course are not only
enjoyable, but also are transferable to all walks of life and work: observation, imagination, concentration,
and sense recall.
While the emphasis in theatre arts is on fun, all major performances are assessed by rubrics of quality
indicators. The final exam in the course is based on a play, selected and rehearsed by the students and presented
by the class for the public at the end of the semester. Graduates describe this course as "memorable."
