Instructional Technology Solutions at Work!!!

Explore, Enliven, Enlighten Lessons

Discover the integration possibilities available to teachers. Learn to diversify your lessons using available software and Internet sites. Explore new ways to enliven your lessons and enlighten your students. Participants will create curriculum specific activities for integrating Web sites, word processing software, presentation software, spreadsheets, and online tools.

Primary Objectives

  •   To integrate technology appropriately to support effective instructional practices across the curriculum.

  •   To provide the opportunity for students to develop skills which are essential to compete in tomorrow’s lifelong learning practices.

Why Technology Integration? View PowerPoint

Characteristics of good projects.

Projects should have the following characteristics:

  •            Utilize [require!] students' creative processes. This excludes word processing that is merely type and print, except at the most introductory levels.

  • Emphasize or teach core curriculum topics such as math, science, language arts and social studies while also addressing technology objectives. Students see computers at home as game machines with some educational application. At school, students need to learn that computers are most commonly used in our society as tools. In school, computers are tools of learning.

IT IS - Integrating Technology In School

1. Content – Technology Integration must directly relate to the established curriculum goals.

2. Critical Thinking – Technology Integration should emphasize critical thinking skills.

3. NETS - National Educational Technology Standards for Students

Task

Today you will complete a compilation task. A compilation task familiarizes learners with a body of content and provides them with practice in making selection choices and explaining them, as well as organizing, chunking, and paraphrasing information drawn from a variety of sources in a variety of forms.

Process

To Complete this task , follow the steps below:

1. Investigate several of the integration strategies listed in the resources section below. Check with the rest of the class so not everyone is investigating the same strategy.

2. List the pros and cons of each strategy that you investigate. Compile your results using the blank  PMI Treatment of Ideas worksheet

PMI: THE TREATMENT OF IDEAS

P = Plus    The good things about an idea - why you like it.

M = Minus     The bad things about an idea - why you don't like it.

I= Interest     What you find interesting about an idea..

Instead of just saying you like an idea or don't like an idea, you can use PMI. When you use a PMI you give the good points first, then the bad points and then the points that are neither good nor bad but are interesting. You can use PMI as a way of treating ideas, suggestions and proposals.
