Instructional Technology Solutions at Work!!!

New Teacher Academy

Objective: New Teachers will become familiar with the technologies available to them in the Gouverneur Central School District.

Accelerated Reader – Elementary Reading Skills. Ask your principal.

CCC - Testing Review Skills for Elementary. Ask your principal.

ClearTrack – Academic Intervention Software. New log-in information will be available soon.  Passwords are available from the CSE Chairperson (Jennifer Bell)

Computer Labs - Most buildings have a computer lab where you can bring your entire class. Ask your Department Chair or Principal where your computer lab is located. Each Library/Media Center has a bank of computers available for your use also.

Daily Absence Report - District wide listing of teacher that are absent.

Drop Boxes - Teachers have folder space on the server for students to drop work into for assessment.  Elementary students need logins to use a drop box. Ask Doug Willard for a class log-in and password.

iMail is our e-mail software.

Moodle - a course management system (CMS) designed using sound pedagogical principles to help educators create effective online learning communities. Model Schools is currently housing and supporting our system. Training for Moodle is available on My Learning Plan.

My Learning Plan - Manages our professional development records.

Net Support - Instruct, monitor and collaborate with your networked students. Interact with your students either individually, within a group or to the overall class.

School Island – Testing Review Skills for HS & MS.  You will receive your password from the Assistant Superintendent's  office (Gary West, Lori Jenness).

School Tool - Student Management System & Grading software,Training sessions TBA.

Student Accounts - Middle School and High School students should always log on to the computers with User Name and Password. E-mail Doug Willard if students have log-in problems.  Elementary students do not need logins. 

Student Practice Skills - This page links to a variety of online activities for students to practice academic skills while incorporating technology.

Video Conferencing Units – Available in each building for Virtual Field Trips Ask your Principal or Librarian for more information.

Most teachers will have the following Technologies available in their rooms:

          Large Screen Monitor or LCD Projector

          VCR

          Cable TV

          Computer with

          Windows 2000 Or XP

          MS Office 2003

Printer

Some Elementary rooms have computer centers (2 or more Macs) for students.

 GCS Desired Computer Skills - These are the skills you need at Gouverneur.

Level l Skills

1. Use the power switches to turn on the printer and computer. Leave the monitor switch on.

2. Each Large screen monitor is connected to coaxial cable, a VCR, and your computer. The Menu option will allow you to switch between the different modes.

3. I-Mail is our e-mail software located at http://163.153.54.40/IClient/Login.aspx The link can be found on all the school web pages. (We will be unveiling a new web page soon-sneak preview.

4. Each school has 'Daily Announcements'. A password is needed, each building secretary will provide you with it.

5. MS Word Basics - Create, save, print, and retrieve documents.

6. Save documents in various locations.

7. The district supports a variety of printers. You are responsible to provide the ink cartridges for the printers in your room. These are ordered through the Coop Bid.

8. Mrs. Dixon, Library Media Specialist, will give you support for Mandarin.

9. My Learning Plan, http://mylearningplan.com,is the Gouverneur School District’s web-based service for tracking and managing Professional Development activities for its staff.  All professional development requests must go through this web site.  You can find the link to My Learning Plan and a 'Step-by-Step Guide' under Staff Resources on the Gouverneur main web page.

Internet Skills

1. URL is just an acronym for a web address.

2. Using Search Engines.

3. Creating Bookmarks and Favorites.

4. Be careful when Opening attached files, make sure the person is not sending you a virus. If in doubt Delete.

5. FTP-File Transfer Protocol - Password required transfer of files from server to your computer.

Software Skills

1. MS Word

2. MS Excel

3. MS PowerPoint

4. Run Programs

5. Create folders, move and copy files, delete files and rename files.
