Meeting the NCLB 8th Grade Proficiency Goal

DID YOU KNOW?

Technology literacy is the ability of individuals to responsibly use appropriate technology tools to: access, manage, integrate and evaluate information; construct new knowledge; and communicate with others to improve learning and acquire lifelong knowledge and skills.

A technology literate student is deemed to be proficient in the following areas: basic operations and concepts, ethical, social and human issues, technology productivity, technology communication, technology research and technology as a problem-solving and decision-making tool.

On April 25, 2007 the Model Schools Site Administers met with Morristown Central School Principal Mark Wills and Teacher Bill Van Vleet to discuss and share the 8th Grade technology assessment piloted at their school. The assessment was a combination of a knowledge based and a performance based test. The LEA must be able to document the technology literacy proficiency level of each eighth grade student at the completion of each school year. Part 1 of the test consisted of 70 multiple-choice questions given to all 8th grade students using the CPS Clicker System. Part 11 of the test is the ISTE's NETS Online Technology Assessment
