Parents As Readers - Parents As Listeners
PAR-PALS is a reading program unique to Fowler School. The idea is very simple. Parents, grandparents, pre-K children and others are invited to come to school and read. Once a month an invitation is sent. Parents meet and have coffee about 20 minutes prior to reading. After announcements, parents go to classrooms and get the children and usually some friends, find a welcoming spot and read. The remainder of the children are invited to hear a Community Reader. After about 25 minutes, parents are thanked and children return to the classrooms. It's a very simple idea that has grown. Sisters, brothers, parents and grandparents enjoy reading in this atmosphere of community.
