Notes from the Superintendent: Christine J. LaRose

Dear Parents,

As Superintendent I would like to welcome you to the Gouverneur Central School District.  We are a child-centered school district dedicated to the mission of preparing today's students for tomorrow's world.

GCS promotes high standards of performance.  Our team of professionals has the expertise, dedication, and initiative to provide students with the highest quality educational experience.  They are committed to providing the opportunity for all students to develop the skills they will need academically, socially, and emotionally to become happy, successful, and productive members of our society.

We are committed to continuous improvement.  The Long Range Strategic Plan developed by parents, community members, Board of Education members, administrators, faculty and staff is based upon the following beliefs:

  •  We believe that a strong foundation of learning is crucial if students are to successfully meet the new higher standards and move into a career of their choice.
  • We believe that effective teachers are the greatest single factor in improving student achievement.
  • We believe that improving a safe, secure, stimulating, joyous learning environment contributes to a lifelong passion for learning and high student achievement.
  • We believe that it does "take a whole village to raise a child" and that parent and community involvement has a significant impact on student achievement.

The plan outlines several strategies for reform that will be implemented over the next three years. Site-based , shared decision making teams provide the opportunity for each school community to address their priorities in addition to moving forward with the Long Range Plan.

As we work together with parents and the community for the benefit of each and every child. We encourage you to visit the web site frequently to stay aware of the activities of the district and enjoy the many resources and links that are available.                                                                        pcard@gcs.neric.orgte
