NOTES FROM THE TEACHERS:
Make sure everything is labeled with your child's name.
Please do not have your child bring toys from home.
When you send money to school with your student, please put it in a sealed
envelope clearly labeled with your child's name and what it is for (i.e. snack
milk, breakfast/lunch, etc.) This is especially important on the 1st day of
school.
It would be really helpful if over the summer you and your child could practice
the following skills:
* Writing his/her name. Please practice the name as it is written (capitalize
the first letter, small letters for the rest.).
* Using scissors. Please practice cutting straight lines and curves.
We're looking forward to working with your students in the fall!

1ST GRADE
Mrs. Cartwright
Mrs. McCarthy
A LETTER FROM THE TEACHERS:
Dear Parents:
We are looking forward to meeting you and your first grader in September.
Next year the children will be doing much of their work in centers (work
stations) with specific activities and designated materials. Therefore, we
are asking you to send in $8 during the 1st week of school to cover the cost
of school supplies, rather than send individual supplies for your child.
This will ensure that the students have the necessary work tools and will
enable you to provide for your child's school needs with the greatest
economy.
The following are skills we hope you can spend some time reviewing over the
summer:
* tie your own shoes
* listen to and follow directions
* count to 100
* identify colors
* identify the following shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle)
* print numbers 0 to 9
* be able to read the following sight words (my, is, the, in, have, I, can,
a. like, and, you, it, did, will, do, cat, man, sat, ran, bat, tan)
* identify the letters of the alphabet, both upper and lower case
* know the sound that each of the letters in the alphabet makes
Your child will be expected to wear sneakers on gym days. Sandals and
flip-flops may not be worn for play on the playground. Therefore, when the
weather is nice, please be sure your child has sneakers here at school so he
or she can take advantage of outside recess. Please put your
child's name in/on everything you send to school.
Have a wonderful summer, see you in September!

GRADE
Mrs. Cassidy, Mrs. Fenlong
Mr. Baker, Mr. Matthis
* 1 pkg of wide ruled loose leaf notebook paper
* 5 100 page composition notebooks (not spiral bound)
* 4 plastic pocket folders
* 1 pkg wide ruled loose leaf paper
100 ct. 3x5 index cards
1 block eraser
* 10 pencils (no mechanical pencils please)
crayons (24 count)
NO TRAPPER KEEPERS PLEASE (they are too big to fit in our students' desks)
NOTES FROM THE TEACHERS:
In order to assist the children in better organizing themselves, we have color
coded each of the homerooms, so it may be a benefit to your child if you able to
purchase the supplies using the same color scheme. If possible, 1 red folder, 1
yellow, 1 blue and 1 green would be quite useful. Color coding the composition
books would help also (2 of each color).
It is our plan to house the majority of the materials in the children's
homerooms so that they will have very little to transport from room to room,
especially in the beginning of the year as we help them adjust to switching
classes.
